What's Myo?

Meo Myofunctional Therapy

You may be wondering, "What is myofunctional therapy?!" My job is to educate and guide clients to meet the four goals of myofunctional therapy. These goals are nasal breathing, proper mouth and tongue posture, and correcting the oral phase of swallow.

All of these functions have a direct effect on airway, health, and wellness. Meo Myo Therapy practices with a focus on the client as a whole and not just their myofunctional impairments. The ultimate goal is for you to use all your new skills automatically without even thinking about it.

The assigned exercises address the muscles from below the eyes to the shoulders, most involve the tongue. These exercises are non-invasive, interventional, and easy to do.

Therapy can begin after completing an initial oral facial functional evaluation. Our therapy sessions are conducted in an online video chat format typically every 1 - 2 weeks for 30 to 45 minutes. Length of therapy programs can range from a few sessions to a year for comprehensive therapy.

The length of your individualized therapy plan is determined by the number and severity of oral myofunctional disorders and your compliance with therapy. The average length is a few months if meeting regularly.

Myofunctional therapy is usually a piece of your overall wellness puzzle. Your therapist will often collaborate with other healthcare providers as needed to address different parts of this puzzle. I hope this helps to explain what myofunctional therapy is and a little bit about how it works.

Schedule a complimentary guidance call to answer your general questions, discuss therapy goals, and determine if Meo Myo Therapy is the right fit for you. If you prefer to get started right away, schedule an initial oral facial functional evaluation. All clients are required to complete an initial evaluation prior to beginning therapy.
